Information and FAQ

What is this?

The FE3H Femslash Exchange is a fanworks exchange for celebrating the fun and diverse female cast of Fire Emblem: Three Houses! It will run from 8 January 2021 to 4 April 2021. 

The schedule is as follows: 

8-15 January: Sign-ups open
25 January: Assignments sent out
14 March: Default deadline--if you're going to drop out, please do so by this date!
21 March: Works due
28 March: Collection goes live (or as soon as everyone has a gift)
4 April: Creators revealed

How it works.

For the purposes of this exchange, femslash is defined as fic or art pertaining to the relationship between two (or more!) characters presented in the FE3H canon as female. Let us say up front and unambiguously, though: trans and nonbinary headcanons are welcome and encouraged! 
The exchange will be conducted through AO3. If you don't have an AO3 account, go here. You can also DM the mods at @fe3hfemslashex on Twitter, or email us at [email protected], and we'll get the invite for you, no problem.
Work must contain some romantic element, no matter how vague or minor. We're not going to break out our romance-o-meter and hold it up to every work, but please keep this in mind! We love gen, but this is not a gen exchange.
After AO3's automated matching program pairs up participants, we'll go through and hand-check the matches for accuracy. You will be matched based on your offer and exactly one of your recipient's requests.
We cannot redo assignments or rematch you unless there is a very clear error on our part, e.g., we've given you all prompts that hit your listed DNWs. Please be clear and specific in your sign-up, and in your offer blurb especially, to avoid this unfortunate situation! You'll find a more detailed guide to signups below. If you honestly, sincerely cannot do any of your prompts, please reach out to us as soon as possible. 
Writers will produce a fic of at least 1000 words, of a quality they would be happy to receive as a gift. Artists will produce a completed piece of artwork, also of a quality they would be happy to receive as a gift. There are no minimum size requirements for art. Requests and submissions may be any rating. 
If you sign up and find that you cannot complete your assignment for any reason, please use the default button on AO3 to withdraw as soon as possible. Life happens. It do be like that sometimes. No judgment here.
For simplicity's sake, when requesting, you may not specify whether you want fic or art. 
You must fill one of your participant's requests. If you want to fill more, more power to you! But you only have to fill one. 
Please do not discuss your assignments during the creation period! FE3H Femslashex is an anonymous exchange, which means work creators will be revealed after a week........ of mystery. Please help us keep the surprise intact, and don't post WIP snippets or progress shots on social media! Please do not attach your social media handles to your work before reveals. You can add them in after. Thank you.
If you need to get in contact with your recipient, please reach out to the mods and we'll pass your message along anonymously. 
Art gifts must also be posted to AO3. AO3 doesn't have native image hosting, here's a guide from the site itself on how to embed images. 
Pinch hitting is what makes exchanges like this work! Pinch hits will be sent out through a Google Groups mailing list. Go here to sign up. You do not have to be participating in the exchange to sign up for the mailing list, or to pick up a pinch hit! You'll have a later deadline to turn your work in, as well.

Rules

2. Requests and submissions may be any rating. They must contain some romantic element. What constitutes "romance" is up to participant discretion.

3. Requests and submissions must involve two or more characters presented to us in canon as female. That said, trans and nonbinary headcanons are welcome and encouraged! Bring em on.

4. Submissions may not include a requester's listed DNWs. We take this very seriously. 

5. Gifts must be complete, and cannot be part of a previously posted series. 

6. Be polite and respectful to other participants. Everyone has different interests and squicks. 

7. Please tag your content accurately and appropriately.

Sign-up Guide

The FE3H Femslash Exchange is a gift exchange, which means participants will produce one piece of fic or art for a participant, and receive at least one piece of fic or art in return. So that we're not matching blindly, we will ask you to make between 3-5 requests, and then tell us what you'd like to produce. This will help us, and AO3's handy dandy matching program give everyone an assignment they'll be happy with.

Your request should include:
Between one and four characters you'd like your gift to focus onUp to two relationships for the gift to focus on.Optionally, a rating for your request. Mostly this is if you want porn.A descriptive blurb detailing what, exactly, you would like and not like in your request.
The blurb is the most important part here. You may go into as much or as little detail as you care to, but keep in mind... "Write me any Bernadetta fic!" may feel very open, but it's actually very daunting to come across! Give your writer/artist something to work with, even if you don't have a defined idea for exactly what you'd like to receive. If it helps, try to think about what things you like to see in art or fic. 

Why are you requesting these particular characters, this pairing— what excites you about them? And, perhaps more importantly, what kinds of things do you not want your gift-giver to include? 

Also, because participants are not allowed to specify whether they'd like fic or art, when making your requests, please try to give prompts that can easily be filled by either.

Leonie/Marianne, G/T 
For fic, I love Leonie, and I'm really interested in exploring her life during the timeskip traveling around with mercenaries. I don't know what kind of scenario you'd have her meet up with Marianne in (mercenary company hired to defend Edmund territory? Chance meeting in Derdriu?) I really really like trans Marianne, by the way, so if you could include that I'd be really grateful. I think Leonie's dynamic with Shamir is really interesting, too, so if you could work in a Shamir cameo that would be great! 

For art, I'd be really interested in seeing, hmm, different versions of their outfits? What were their outfit choices during the timeskip, what were they wearing before they came to Garreg Mach? Casual wear would be really cool. 

Edelgard/Byleth, E
Look, I just want some Edeleth porn. Post-timeskip only and CF only, please. Edelgard is so, so very happy that her professor is alive... she decides to show just how happy she is and goes a little overboard pampering a very confused Byleth. Somehow it gets to sex? Somehow. Please no noncon or super sexually innocent Byleth! 

Ingrid/Mercedes, T
I think a modern AU would be so nice for them--maybe a coffee shop AU? Butch bike messenger Ingrid and extremely chipper baker Mercedes? Do I just like Ingrid in flannel? Yes. Run with it. p.s. I headcanon Ingrid as nonbinary, so any content of her/them having feelings about her/their pronouns and gender expression would be great.

In your offer, you'll let us know what things you would or would not like to write or draw. Unlike requests, which will be made public after the signup period, offers will only be seen by the mods, so it's in your best interest to be as specific as possible. We will not be doing reassignments based on things you didn't tell us in your offer text; please preempt this situation by telling us your squicks and dislikes. 

That said... let us know what excites you. Let us know what tropes or conceits you enjoy the most. Let us know what really revs your engine. 

Please only offer characters and pairings you're enthusiastic about. Only tick the "Any Character" or "Any Relationship" box if you're ready to write or draw absolutely anything we throw at you. 

Here's some examples of offer text: 

I enjoy writing fluff, and I don't really like angst and would like to avoid writing that if at all possible. I'm most confident writing the Golden Deer girls (especially Hilda), but I ship them with lots of out-of-house characters. Also, I would rather not write Byleth, Rhea, or any of the Church of Seiros characters. Manuela is okay, though.
Please, give me your porny requests! The weirder and more obscure, the better! Any genre works, and darker requests are fine. I'm not really great at comics, but I can give it the old college try. I am a big Black Eagles fan, if you couldn't tell from my offered characters, haha. That said, things I absolutely do not want to draw: monsterfucking, extreme insertions. I'm not really into hatefucking, either.
In addition, you may also ask not to be matched with a particular person or persons. We can and will accommodate these requests, within reason. No need to give us backstory; your word is enough.

We will not, however, accomodate requests along the lines of “I don’t want to be matched with anyone who [has written or drawn X]/[has opinion Y].” As stated above, you will be matched based on your offered pairings and characters, your offer text, and exactly one of another participant’s requests, and we will not match you on anything you’ve stated you don’t wish to write/draw. Please make your offer text as clear and unambiguous as possible in order to avoid any misunderstandings.
